Gall Bladder Cancer

Gall-bladder carcinoma (GBC) which is the most common biliary tract cancer, has very poor prognosis and late diagnosis makes it lethal. High risk zone of GBC is in a wide band of north eastern India. These are the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal and Assam which are known as the GBC belt. As incidence of Gallbladder carcinoma depends highly on geographical location and show ethnic variation, it is possible that some population specific risk factors might be key players for the GBC.  Identification of GBC associated genes and elucidation of molecular mechanism can help in establishing molecular (bio) markers and in turn individuals at high risk for the GBC.
